Alright, So, New facebook then.
I work with a guy named Marc Tytus and I added him on Facebook. Nothing out of the norm. Anywho, I see his status is he hates the new Facebook, so I take a gander at http://www.new.facebook.com (which allows you to use the new one if you haven’t flipped over yet…) and I agree with him.
Here is the jist. The goal is to make it more useable, but it lost a lot of the things I loved about it.
Let’s start with the home page. The best part of the homepage of FB was the ability to access all your apps all at once. No searching for things. One click and there it is. This still exists on the front page, but it is to the right side.. which to me doesn’t seem like the natural place for a nav menu. Maybe it was just the way I was raised.
Also, on the front page, as well as the profiles, the attempt to make things cleaner and more streamlined seem to have made them more cluttered.. I mean, they elliminated the side bar but kept things centred.. it doesn’t make sense, I think they should have used the entire page instead of the middle two thirds.
On the profile, where the most hate is located, the “wall” and “mini feed” have been combined to become.. Twitter. Yea, it looks like twitter to me.. Everything is all together, which means if you need to find a wall post.. get searching I guess..
Also, facebook introduced a bunch of applications a while back, the entire concept was dumb to me.. anywho, the point was you add it, throw it on the profile, and it’s another level to interact with people. Now, what tended to happen was you get, what I refer to as app whores. These are the kids who add everything they can.. some sort of attempt to get cool then eh? It basically makes their profiles a pain to be on since 1) you can’t find anything decent below all the crap and 2) it takes six to eight weeks to load. Now this was fine however since you could minimize the boxes.. and when you minimized an app, every instance of THAT app was minimized on every profile. So all you had to do was minimize one app whores apps and most were taken care of. Now it doesn’t seem like thats an option.. Which means you will either have the apps on another tab, which removes the point of them being on your profile.. OR they won’t be minimized, which will make all your friends think your a huge D-bag. I choose both.
All in all, I am sure I will get used to it, But I just don’t understand it. I don’t understand how they can have everything work one way, have millions of people sign up and then change it. Seems like a trick..
