Some Things I Learned

1) No matter what technological advances happen, no matter how old or young, no matter rich or poor, everyone likes seeing things blown up. The best part of things being blown up? That now they can be blown up in the sky. The following is my impression of EVERYONE who was at the Burlington Waterfront Canada Day Fireworks last night, I am sure your local festivals were similar.

2) “We’ll find you, I mean, How many people could there be?!” *cough* The population of Burlington is 164,415. So that’s how many people there could be. How many were there?! Estimates top 200,000. So No, they didn’t find me, I didn’t find them. I walked around for 4 hours and left when I started to hear 200,000 people go “oooo” “ahhhh” in unison. I left the moment the first firework exploded and I still…

3) Got stuck in traffic. It took an hour and a half to make the 20 minute drive across town. Why? Because people are idiots. There was a guy who was acting as a Traffic Cop (Acting because he was neither a cop, or a good person to be directing traffic.) Who decided to stop all the cars going straight, until ALL OF THE CARS TURNING were let onto the main street. Now if you want to stagger, go one and one, all the friggen way you go for it, more power to you. But to stop an entire direction to allow an entire other direction go for HALF AN HOUR. Really? Best you got?

4) I should probably get a cell phone. Not to stay in contact with people, but so I can call for an ambulance to come clear a path for me all the way home, a la Die Hard: With A Vengeance.
